Dakota Resource Council

Renewable energy

Fortunately, North Dakota is well-positioned to be a national leader in meeting electricity and fuel needs and simultaneously reducing both pollution and dependence on foreign oil.  North Dakota has one of the world’s premier wind energy resources and millions of acres to grow agricultural products to make biofuels.  That’s largely because of the undue influence of the state’s coal industry on state policy.  DRC and its allies won the removal of tax disadvantages to wind energy production in 2001.  These changes helped get the wind industry off the ground in North Dakota.  But subsequent state legislative efforts to foster wind energy development have met with little success.
